Apple Cinnamon Donuts

Now that Willa has moved into “big” school (aka Kindergarten) she misses her old pre-k / Montessori friends, so we thought what better way to have a playdate than to have the kids bake up their own treats. I’m always going to try to throw recipes at them that include some type of fruit or vegetable, and thanks to Pinterest I found an Apple Cinnamon baked donut recipe from 5minutesformom!
The kids had a ball! It was a super quick and easy recipe to make. While it baked they played every kids favorite game the floor is lava, then I let them decorate with some leftover royal icing I had and some sprinkles, I mean what kid doesn’t like to decorate their own donut!
Here’s a neat tip, it’s something that’s become ingrained with me ever since I started cooking with the kids, MIS EN PLACE (MEEZ AHN PLAHS) is a must!
Mis en place, is a fancy french phrase which loosely translates to “everything in its place”, it is fundamental to cooking and it was actually the first thing I learned in culinary school. But it’s taken me 20+ years and the challenge of cooking with kids to truly appreciate this and adopt the practice every single time I prepare something in the kitchen.
Let me know in the comments if you regularly practice Mis en place! Also, if you try this recipe with your own kids, tag me in pics on Instagram, I love seeing the kids in the kitchen!
