3 Days / 2 Nights in Bogota, Colombia
Here’s a little therapy session for you. Momming and Dadding, and working and adulting can sometimes feel like the doldrums. What was once your spontaneous, carefree relationship can feel a little too routine and dare I say boring. Yes, we grow up and we need to adult, but sometimes we need to make an effort to inject a little adventure. A little one-on-one time can be so crucial for the rest of the responsibilities and the rest of the normal routine to function happily.
It definitely doesn’t need to be to the extreme of taking an international trip, but in our case, an international trip isn’t extreme to us. What did prove to be anxiety-provoking to me was leaving the kids for a weekend. But luckily we have a village and my kids got to spend a weekend with their cousins, which is also something I feel like they need more of also.
Okay, enough of the therapy, and onto the fun stuff.
Ten steps to break the routine!
- Click the Link > Google Flights
- Enter your starting point: select all airports that are within driving distance (don’t forget the smaller local airports)
- Click the date field and select flexible dates
- Zoom in and out and move it all around to explore all your options. I got a good deal from MIA to BOG on spirit.com
- Tell your spouse to take a day off work
- Arrange childcare (and pet-sitting if applicable)
- Go to your travel credit card’s website and find a hotel in the location of your choosing and use some of those points you’re hoarding
- Make sure to check entry requirements (if international). Some places may still require covid testing/ forms, visas, etc.
- Use the below itinerary as inspiration
- Go have fun!
You can also customize your own itinerary using this as a template with Canva (it’s free)
I’m not a stickler for an itinerary, but since it was a surprise trip it was nice to present something. We didn’t stick religiously to the schedule, we ended up partying and dancing the night away in one of the many nightclubs in the Zona Rosa district. Feel free to play around with things to do, maybe fine dining or clubs/ lounges aren’t your scene and you may prefer to go just outside of the city to explore more in nature; here’s a link to help with planning your perfect itinerary!
Here was what we actually did which was not straying too far from the plan:
- Friday:
The Click Clack Hotel
Monserrate
Dinner at Andres Carne de Res
Bar Hopping around Zona T/ Zona Rosa - Saturday:
Graffiti Walking tour
Lunch at La Perseverancia (See the Netflix documentary that sparked my interest)
Dinner at Leo
Drinks at Huerta - Sunday:
Breakfast at the hotel
Walked around Zona Rosa
Headed home!
In my case, I chose to do this with my husband, but solo travel is healing, girlfriend trips are healing, and friend trips and family trips are also bonding. So don’t wait, take the trip!
Let me know in the comments where you chose to go, and if the itinerary was helpful!
