Bonkers for Bath Bombs
If your kids are anything like mine, they are bonkers for bath bombs. And I got tired of spending big bucks on bath bombs every time we stepped foot into a pharmacy, or everyone’s favorite place on the planet…Target lol!
Typically the big bombs are $5 a piece, and with 2 kids that’s a $10 price tag that just washes down the drain, literally. So of course the next logical course of action was to recommend that we make our own! Yay…I think.
Here’s the math of it: to make things easier I bought a Bath Bomb Kit from our other favorite place on the planet, Amazon. The kit was $15 and although it claims to yield 10 bath bombs we got more out of it, so 15 bath bombs means that we made out like bandits at $1 per bath bomb.
However, if you really want to spend pennies then I recommend buying all the ingredients and for $60 you can literally make at least a hundred of these bad boys, (average you’ll spend is about $0.25 per bath bomb). Keep them at home, gift them as gifts, or just keep the kids busy mixing bath salts for hours hahaha!

Here is a guide to the ingredients and substitutions you can make to customize your colors and scents.
Citric Acid – This is a naturally derived ingredient from citrus fruits, think lemons, limes and oranges. The citric acid when mixed with baking soda is what makes the bath bomb fizz.
Baking Soda – You can easily find this in the baking aisle of your local supermarket. I often buy it in bulk because I use it in my everyday cleaning routine, from stovetop, microwave, laundry, garbage disposal and more!
Cornstarch – Also found in the baking aisle of the grocery store.
Mica Powder – This is the color that is often used in soap products. Use a tiny bit, a little goes a long way! This is an optional ingredient.
Epsom Salts – A mineral supplement (magnesium sulfate) commonly used in at-home spas, to sooth achy muscles.
Dried citrus peel – If you’re not using the kit this is a great way to scent your bombs. I was astounded by how expensive essential oils were (though i found an inexpensive one in Walgreens), simply zest a lemon, orange or lime and allow it to dry overnight. Then use this to add fragrance to your bath bombs.
Essential Oils – This is also optional, if you’re using the kit it is included. If not use your favorite oils or you can use the citrus peel mentioned above to add scent.
Coconut, Avocado, Almond, Oil/ Glycerine/ Water – You can use any of these liquids to hold the bath bombs together. If using coconut oil be sure to warm it so that it is a liquid.
